Harper Clan Book
With roots that stretch back through the dim mists of time to the ancient kingdom of Dalriada on Scotland’s western seaboard, the blood of Celts runs through the veins of bearers of the Harper name.
Closely allied to the proud Clan Buchanan, they were present at pivotal events in the nation’s history, while many went on to gain fame through a diverse variety of endeavours and pursuits.
In the world of publishing, Fletcher Harper, born in 1806 in Newton, New York, was one of the founders of the Harper and Brothers publishing house – now an imprint of the international publishing house of HarperCollins – and whose famous magazines included Harper’s Bazaar, still published to this day.
One of his nephews was Henry Harper, one of the survivors of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 – along with his wife, manservant and Pekinese dog.
Recounted here is the colourful and vibrant tale of the Harpers.
