About Lang Syne

Lang Syne Publishers Ltd established in 1978, is Scotland's leading independent publisher of Scottish interest non fiction books published in Scotland. Our titles are sold through bookshops, visitor centres, museums and direct to the public.

Ken Laird, the owner, published his first booklet Village Story in 1971 while working as a local newspaper reporter in Midlothian. It told the fascinating story of Newtongrange and Gorebridge, the mining villages where Ken was born and brought up and the 2,000 print run quickly sold out. Ken was bitten by the publishing bug! His next title was about the Royal Mile in Edinburgh and the rest, as they say is history with dozens more titles following over the years - covering topics from Shetland to Galloway.
Scottish Interest Books, Products and Gifts
In the following years Lang Syne has become a publisher of many Scottish Interest books including an exclusive range of Scottish and Irish Clan name history books. These mini books are published in booklet/mini-book format and have proven to be very popular as gifts for families and christmas stocking fillers.
Supplementing the range we have developed a range of Scottish gifts and souvenirs including fridge magnets, clan products (bookmarks, hip flasks, keyrings etc), soft toys and more. In recent years we have added Scottish interest video/dvd titles and gifts to our range.
