With their name rooted deep in the ancient soil of Scotland, the Browns of today share a kinship with both Clan MacMillan and Clan Lamont.

Famous bearers include, in the form of ‘le Brun’, Sir David le Brun, who is recorded as having witnessed the foundation charter of Holyrood Abbey in 1128, Queen Victoria’s beloved Scottish ghillie, or servant, John Brown, the American abolitionist John Brown and the former British Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Taking to the skies, it was in 1919 that, along with Sir John Alcock, Sir Arthur Whitten Brown made the first transatlantic flight, crossing from Newfoundland to Ireland.

Their proud tale is recorded here.
